Florida Woman Douses Herself In Mountain Dew To Cover Up Murder Evidence
WOFL says that a woman who is accused of killing her roommate put soda on herself to try to get rid of any possible DNA proof on her body. Reporters got a copy of the arrest document, which says that 35-year-old Nichole Maks was locked up on August 5 for killing 79-year-old Michael Cerasoli. Yea, you read that correctly… Florida woman uses mountain dew to cover up evidence!
Here’s what went down…
In the early hours of July 1, a person in the 600 block of Clark Street in Deltona called a Daytona Beach police officer to say that a house was on fire. Authorities say that when firemen went to the scene and put out the fire, they found a man dead on the floor of a bedroom.
A probable cause statement said that the back of Cerasoli’s head had been hit by something and that he had been stabbed several times in the chest. The police also found a bloody knife next to the body of the victim and blood all over the wall. Officials later sent out an internal memo saying that Maks might be a person of interest in the case.
When the cops showed up…
Officers found Maks hours later near a fast food place in Holly Hill. She had no shoes on, a slightly torn shirt, and blood on the side of her leg and a part of her shirt. Police records also say that she had a hammer and a knife with her at the time, but she dropped them when police came up to her.
During questioning, Maks is said to have said that she didn’t know the victim and that she was poor. Reports say that she then said she was Cerasoli’s roommate, but she denied killing the 79-year-old guy and wouldn’t talk more when the fire was brought up. When the police told Maks that they were going to take her DNA, she asked for a drink. They gave her Diet Mountain Dew.
Cops say she was taking too long to drink the soda, but when an investigator tried to take it away, Maks doused herself with a drink to try to get rid of any possible proof on her body. According to the statement, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement later found Cersaoli’s DNA on the knife’s blade and Maks’ DNA on the handle.
According to online jail records, Maks was put into the Volusia County Jail without a fee on charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and violently fighting arrest. She said she wasn’t guilty in writing last week, and her lawyer asked that Maks be tested to see if she’s mentally fit to go to trial.
