Former Buccaneer Antonio Brown gets entire team kicked out of league. After just three months, Antonio Brown’s ownership of the Albany Empire has come crashing down. The National Arena League (NAL) terminated the Empire’s membership due to Brown’s refusal to pay the money he owed. How do you earn $80 Million bucks and gain a reputation for NOT paying your bills?

Despite earning $80.4 million during his 12-year NFL career, Brown has not played a down since a controversial incident in January 2022. This latest episode adds to the growing list of troubles surrounding his professional life. The troubled receiver has been sued multiple times, with creditors alleging substantial amounts owed. His track record suggests that if he owes you money, you’re unlikely to see it.

The NAL board of owners unanimously decided to terminate the Empire’s membership agreement after discussing the team’s failure to meet their financial obligations. Despite technically still owning the team, Brown no longer has a league to play in.

Each of the league’s seven teams is responsible for contributing to the operating budget, with one-seventh of the expenses allocated to each team. Unfortunately, Brown not only fell behind by two payments but also refused to pay a $1,000 fine imposed on him for making derogatory comments about the league.

Following Brown’s accountant’s statement that he would likely not pay what was owed, the NAL gave him until Thursday noon to settle the payment. However, when the money failed to arrive, the league made the decision to terminate Albany’s membership.

Brown’s tenure as owner of the Empire has been nothing short of disastrous. Soon after his acquisition in March, reports emerged of players and staff not receiving their payments. The team’s former head coach even left the Empire due to the missed payments. The team attributed the delays to a change in payroll processors that occurred after Brown took over the franchise.

In the end, the downfall of former Buccaneer Antonio Brown’s ownership of the Albany Empire serves as a stark reminder that financial irresponsibility can have severe consequences. His failure to meet his obligations has not only led to the termination of his ownership but has also tarnished his reputation as a businessman. CBS Sports
