Chris Stapleton Joins Stevie Wonder For Standout Grammy Performance

Author Nancy Brooks // Country Writer, Beasley Media Group
February 5th 9:34 PM

Chris Stapleton was part of a Grammy performance for the ages. He performed with Stevie Wonder as part of a tribute to Motown founders Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy. Robinson was also part of the performance. Stevie introduced Chris as they sang Wonder’s classic”Higher Ground.” He and Stevie went toe to toe before he launched into a more than three-minute guitar solo to prove his guitar skills match his vocal talent.

As the camera panned through the ground, Taylor Swift and Shania Twain stood on their feet, singing along and dancing to the music. The camera also caught Maren Morris and Luke Combs bobbing their heads to the beat and Miranda Lambert and her husband dancing along and clapping.

Wonder and Stapleton have 32 Grammy Award wins combined, 25 for Stevie and eight for Chris.

The medley also included Wonder performing “The Way You Do The Things You Do,” and Robinson performed his standard “The Tears of a Clown.”

Next week, Stapleton will honor America by singing the National Anthem before Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, February 12, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The event will be broadcast on Fox.

Also, Babyface will perform “America the Beautiful.” Actor-singer Sheryl Lee Ralph will perform the 123-year-old hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The game’s halftime show will feature Rihanna.

Chris’ appearance continues a trend of country stars singing the anthem before the Super Bowl. Mickey Guyton performed it last year at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium.

Stapleton’s team posted the news to Instagram, writing, “Watch Chris Stapleton perform the National Anthem at Super Bowl LVII on FOX. 2.12.23 • #SBLVII @nfl @nflonfox @rocnation.”
