New Tron ride opens April 4th at Disney. Disney World has announced that TRON Lightcycle Run, a futuristic coaster based on the world of the 1982 sci-fi film TRON, will finally open at Magic Kingdom on April 4th, 2022. The attraction was first announced in 2017 as part of the park’s 50th anniversary celebration, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

TRON Lightcycle Run takes guests on a special Lightcycle race inside the Grid, with riders on motorbike-inspired cars that resemble the vehicles from the TRON movies. Guests will lean forward and grip handlebars, while a pad secures them from behind. The ride will be one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park in the world, with speeds reaching 59 miles per hour.

The attraction was first introduced at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016, where it has been extremely popular. Its construction at Magic Kingdom was halted due to the pandemic, and also disrupted the operation of the Walt Disney World Railroad that passes by the TRON site. The train has since returned to operation.

Before the attraction officially opens, cast members will be given the opportunity to test the ride and ensure that it is operating smoothly for guests. TRON Lightcycle Run is sure to be a hit among fans of the TRON franchise and thrill-seekers alike. TBT
