Florida Deputy Captures 10-Foot Snake In Neighborhood
How would you feel if you saw this beast slithering by your house? A Florida deputy captured a 10-foot snake in a Sunshine State neighborhood.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a large snake spotted in the Tall Pines neighborhood. Agriculture Deputy Clay Mangrum went along with the St. Lucie deputies to wrangle this reptile. When he spotted this boa constrictor, he was shocked by how big it was. “Living and growing up in South Florida, I have been around snakes my whole life. I used to have snakes when I was a kid, as well,” said Mangrum. “I have never handled large constrictors and have never handled a snake near the size of this boa before. It was an exciting experience, for sure.”
Mangrum went after this beast single-handedly. “I was able to gain control of the snake by grabbing it behind its head,” he said. “I then pulled it from where it was hiding and gained some control of its body. Other deputies on scene assisted by holding the snake bag.” What Mangrum captured was a 10-foot, 75 pound red-tail boa constrictor. Here’s the deputy with his latest catch:
The red-tail boa is native to Central and South America. Since this snake is not native to Florida, it was taken to Chandler’s Wild Life in St. Lucie County where they will care for it. [SOURCE Fox 13]
