Tampa Bay’s Hometown Morning Krewe

Weekdays 6:00AM - 10:00AM

Loren honors a fallen Pinellas officer in a special way for First Responder Friday this week. Loren is a Lieutenant for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and has been at the job for 26 years.

Loren honors a fallen Pinellas officer in a special way by riding in the Police Unity Tour. It’s a bicycle ride from Virginia to Washington D.C. to raise money for fallen police officers. Each rider chooses a fallen officer to raise money for and Loren chose Pinellas Deputy Sheriff Michael Magli. Deputy Magli was the first Pinellas County officer to be killed in the line of duty in the department’s history. Loren’s wife, Jennifer, tells us what Loren did at the end of the Police Unity Tour, “They all rode for Magli and his wife and his children were at the end of the memorial of the ride, and they all got to hand their bracelets to her.”

Congrats to Loren as he receives a $100 Visa gift card from Crown Buick GMC . He also gets another $100 Visa gift card from Demesmin & Dover Law Firm.

Every Friday we honor a first responder in Tampa Bay. Do you have someone in your life that is a first responder? Someone that you admire, a relative, a friend? Whoever it is that you want to spotlight. We want to hear from you, and you can nominate someone right now by doing so HERE. The nomination process takes about five minutes. Once you nominate someone we will be in touch with you to schedule a call with you.

Some Of These Hurricane Preparations I Didn't Think Of

We are in the peak of hurricane season and if you haven’t got your hurricane preparations together it isn’t too late. Some of these hurricane preparations I didn’t think of.

Some of things every Floridian should have in their prep kit are: Non-perishable food and water for at least three days, First-aid kit, Flashlights and Battery operated radio. There are some things that are not on this list that are just as important.

  • Develop An Emergency Plan

Get an emergency plan together with your family. Figure out where you would go if you have to evacuate. Don’t forget about your pets in the planning.

  • Electric-Powered Medical Equipment

If you or someone in your family relies on electric-powered medical equipment make sure that you contact your local emergency management office. Ask them about special needs shelters. Also, make sure you have a back-up power source to power the equipment.

  • Generator

Never, never, never, start up a generator inside of your house or garage. Make sure it is outside in a well ventilated area. Also, don’t plug the generator directly into a breaker or fuse box.

  • Trim Trees Near Power Lines

If you have trees near power lines make sure you get a professional to trim the trees.

  • Photograph Or Record Video Of Your Home

You want to do this for insurance purposes and don’t just get video of the inside. Make sure to video the outside of your house too. Put the most important records in a waterproof bag.
