Tampa Bay’s Morning Krewe

Weekdays 6:00AM - 10:00AM

Brett Phillips surprised his biggest fan.

We learned earlier this week that one of our favorite Rays players, Brett Phillips is being traded to the Orioles.  Rays fans are sad, but there is one fan who will miss him the most.   8 year old Chole Grimes.   Chole has been battling cancer for the past six years and she is the biggest Brett Phillips fan.

The Tampa Bay Rays invited her to throw out the first pitch in a game earlier this season.  At that game she also got to meet Brett Phillips.  Before the game, she gave Brett a bracelet, which he not only wore during the game for inspiration, but he hit a monster home run that he ended up dedicating to his new friend.  The two have had a special connection since.  A few days after that game….she even got a visit from Brett at her home and Brett gave her the home run ball.

Fast forward to this week, Obviously, Chole is bummed about Brett changing teams, but he did something that was pretty amazing.  He surprised his biggest fan.

Brett stopped by to visit Grimes earlier this week and she showed her the glove they designed together.   The glove company, Wilson created their design for them.

Brett is an outstanding guy.  He has a special bond with Chole, is his biggest fan and wanted to say goodbye before moving to his new town.

Chole was beyond excited, her mother posted on social media how much this meant to her and her daughter and thanked Phillips for his kindness and said he has a heart of gold.

Thank you Brett Phillips for making Tampa Bay proud.
