Six Tampa Bay Breweries Bring Home Medals From U.S. Open Beer Championships

(Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)Just in case you never noticed, our area is blessed with some of the best local breweries in the country. Six of these Tampa Bay breweries just brought home medals from the U.S. Open Beer Championships!
Over 9000 brews representing over 150 styles of beer were judged at the event held in Oxford Ohio. Lots of beers and lots of solid competition but these Tampa Bay breweries rose to the top:
Motorworks Brewing won three medals:
- Gold in the chili pepper beer category for their Mango Habanero IPA.
- Gold in the barrel-aged Belgian dark category for their Bern’s Legacy 8.
- Silver in the barrel-aged wine category for their Thresher.
Florida Avenue Brewing Company won two medals:
- Gold in the American brown ale category for their Brown Ale.
- Bronze in the American-style fruit beer category for their Tangerine Splash.
Cigar City Brewing Company won two medals:
- Silver in the imperial stout specialty category for their Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout.
- Silver in the brown porters category for Maduro Brown Ale.
Brew Hub won two medals:
- Silver in session IPA for their Rome City.
- Silver in the “specialty/anything goes” category for The Dude.
Cueni Brewing Company won one medal:
- bronze medal in the American imperial stout category for their Sinister Imperial Stout.
deBine Brewing Company won one medal:
- Gold in the American amber/red category for Fire The Cannons.
Congrats to these breweries for bringing back some precious metals to Tampa Bay! Why not pay these breweries a visit and sample some of their award winning beverages!

TBBC has two locations, however the Ybor City location was featured. They they brew awesome beers their food is also a favorite of their loyal patrons. The restaurant's Barleywine Meatloaf, Cider Wings and their Wild Warthog Thai Style Spicy Curry Mussels have been featured on the show.
