Seeing more law enforcement on the roads lately? Pump the brakes because Operation Southern Slow Down is happening in Florida and four other southern states.

Going on now through Saturday July 23, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) along with local law enforcement agencies are conducting "concentrated enforcement on interstates and state highways." Bottom line is that they are trying to save lives and prevent reckless driving and speeding" in Florida.

This operation is a joint effort with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to their statistics, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities.

Everyone who drives in Florida knows that speeding is a daily event on the roads. Sadly, it can lead to accidents with fatalities. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has a page with some eye-opening and sobering statistics.

Operation Southern Slow Down is being conducted in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
