Tampa Bay’s Morning Krewe spoke with Cody Johnson and he talked about his respect for law enforcement. Cody will be at the Yuengling Center in Tampa on November 18th and we can’t wait to see him.
Cody made Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo history by becoming the first unsigned/independent artist to play to a sold-out crowd in 2019. The first time he played the Houston Rodeo he was a fill-in. He was given a 3 day notice after Old Dominion had to cancel their show. When when plays the Houston Rodeo in 2023 it will be his fifth time performing there.
Being from Texas the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas hit him pretty hard, but Cody talked about his respect for law enforcement after the tragedy. Cody said, “I feel like this is an opportunity for law enforcement to become the good guys again. People have been so down on police officers and so down on law enforcement, and you have to remember that when it hits the fan, that’s who you’re calling.”
Cody is also known as “CoJo”. He was born and raised in East Texas. He was born in Sebastopol, Texas, which is a small town of a little over 100 people.
Johnson began playing music at age 12. In 2006, he formed the Cody Johnson Band with his dad, Carl, and they recorded an album called Black and White Label. They recorded a live album named Live and Rocking, at Shenanigans and Confetti’s Club in Huntsville. Cody’s dad left the band after the release of that Live album. The band’s first professionally produced album, Six Strings One Dream, was released in 2009. Three singles from the album reached the top 10 of the Texas music charts.
Cody signed to Warner Music Nashville and released the album called Ain’t Nothin’ To It in 2019. That album had the song “On My Way To You” on it.
He released his 8th studio album called Human: The Double Album in 2021. It had his first #1 song on country radio on it with “Til You Can’t”.
