It's one of those questions that keeps us up at night. Can you call it a bar if it serves only non-alcoholic drinks? This Orlando speakeasy believes so.

This story takes us to Orlando where the establishment known as The Bandbox. When you step inside, you will be transported back to the 1920's. The art deco inspired decor reflects the speakeasy's of the time. But instead of smuggled booze or bathtub gin, you will be served non-alcoholic versions of your favorite cocktails.

The Bandbox has been two years in the making and owner Kevin Zepf was inspired by the 1920's temperance movement.

At the time people were just getting drunk. There was a lot of corruption, a lot of crime and the jails were filling up. Wives and mothers were concerned about their sons and husbands because everyone was out drinking. There was a movement to kind of clean everything up. Out of that, came these temperance bars or taverns that only served non-alcoholic drinks like elixirs and tonics,” said Zepf.

Instead of booze, they use zero-proof alcohol alternatives or bitters. According to Zepf, these alternatives mimic "that same sensation, that burn that you get in your throat” you get from alcohol. This Orlando speakeasy also lets you purchase bottles of their zero-proof alternative spirits.
The Bandbox is a throwback to a different time in our country. If you're looking for a different kind of vibe and atmosphere, you can taste the world of the 1920's in Ivanhoe Village off North Orange Avenue in Orlando. Then you can decide if you can call it a bar?
