St. Pete pick-pockets target your cell phone. If you're DTSP hang on to your PHONE. Police are investigating a bunch pf recent thefts downtown. Appears you cell phone is an easy target. Police think in most cases it's the old bump and pick technique. People are so close. Bumping in to each other dancing and squeezing up to the bar. You can see phones hanging out of pockets and purses everywhere.
Some phones also had credit cards and ID's attached in cases. Also, gone! One bar owner says he gets an occasional call about a lost phone now and then. But, one weekend he got 13 calls in the morning alone. That's when he went to the video surveillance cameras. Even police admitted it's hard to tell who is doing what on footage. Everyone is so close. Crooks watch to see phones sticking out of pockets and purses, and then - you get bumped in to, and pick-pockets target your cell phone. Police say 0ver 30 phones missing so far.
