Pinellas County Schools Pushing Boys To Read More In Book Battle
Pinellas County Schools pushing boys to read more in book battle. It’s all part of Florida’s statewide challenge to close the literacy gap.
Many boys say they read just to get it over with because they have to. The Pinellas County Schools model brings on more student engagement and types of reading material that hold the boy’s interest. A simple example is “The Captain Underpants” series for younger boys. It’s more fun and engaging when the reader wants to know “what happens next?”
The reading battle has seen some success with new material and focusing on a competitive environment. They even have a boy’s book club, science-based, called Mad Scientists and Lab Rats. Every boy wants to be a Lab Rat, right? It does sound kinda fun.
