We Need To Save Tampa Bay Area Manatees People! There Is A Plan
We need to save Tampa Bay Area Manatees people! There is a plan. Manatees need to eat about 10% of their body weight every day. Weighing in at nearly 1,200 lbs, that’s a lot of cabbage! Or, Seaweed! Seaweed is gone or going, and many are dying. Some are trying to survive on Algae. That will not cut it.
A record “die off” over the past year is causing pause, and change. Over on the east coast, nearly 96% of their sea grasses (77,000 acres) has disappeared. Here around Tampa Bay, more of the same. We’re (humans) doing this. we gotta fix it.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Service will announce plans this week on feeding Manatees. They’re gonna try to do that with as little human interaction as possible. When Manatees become comfortable approaching Humans, they actually can be harmed more often by boat propeller’s among other things.
That’s why it’s illegal to feed or touch, or interrupt their path, even when they just swim right up to your paddle board. They are beautiful creatures. Fun to watch. And there’s a safe way to do that.
Watch for the program to expand to Tampa Bay Area soon, with Cabbage and Lettuce feeding at Warm Spot when Manatees gather. Let’s Save ‘Em. They are the True Locals!
