Citrus Connection has just started "Squeeze." That's the name of new shuttle which will transport people throughout downtown Lakeland. What makes this shuttle different is that they are using golf carts! It's a pilot project that will run for a year and make stops at popular Lakeland locations. During the trial phase, Squeeze will run during lunchtime Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
What's the reason for using the eight seat golf carts? "We want to change the perception of public transportation here in Polk County,” said Erin Killebrew, Director of External Affairs for Citrus Connection. “We want you to be able to get on and have that experience with the operator and be able to joke around with them, have an open-air experience.”
So the next time you see golf carts zipping around downtown Lakeland, you'll know what it's all about!
