CLEVELAND, OHIO - OCTOBER 30: H.E.R. (L) and Keith Urban perform onstage during the 36th Annual Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on October 30, 2021 in Cleveland, Ohio.

“What brings us here tonight is Tina’s journey to independence,” said Angela Bassett, who did the honors in inducting Tina Turner into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Bassett famously played Turner in the 1993 biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It. Bassett noted, “It was one of the most demanding roles I ever played, but it was the most rewarding.”

A video package highlighting Turner’s incredible solo career followed and featured a number of Turner’s most iconic solo performances, including one with her and Cher from The Cher Show. Cher was one of many artists appearing in the video talking about Turner’s greatness and she said, “The definition of insanity is getting up on stage with Tina Turner…I don’t think there’s ever going to be another woman to touch her.”

Turner did not make the trip to Cleveland to accept her Rock Hall award but she recorded a speech. She said, “If they’re still giving me awards at 81, I must’ve done something right.”

Turner’s was represented in three very dynamic performances. H.E.R and Keith Urban performed “It’s Only Love,” the song she recorded with Bryan Adams. (Adams was supposed to perform with H.E.R. but had to back out of the performance due to testing positive for COVID.)

Country star Mickey Guyton followed performing “What’s Love Got to Do With It” dressed like Turner from the song’s music video in a denim jacket and a black leather dress. Christina Aguilera then took to the stage and performed “River Deep, Mountain High,” which the audience ate up.
