Wrong way sensor locations for Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. The Florida Department of Transportation is installing wrong-way detection devices on Interstate ramps in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

The project began in June, and there’s a list from the Florida DOT of the locations where the sensors are being installed. The project is expected to be completed in Spring of 2022.

The Tampa Bay Times explained in March that the sensors will detect wrong-way drivers. When they do so, an alarm is triggered at the Traffic Management Center. The Florida Highway Patrol monitors this alarm.

There are also cameras at the sensors to help track the drivers in real-time. The sensors will set off flashing lights and post a warning message on the overhead signs on the interstates.

Here is the list of locations for the wrong-way detection devices on interstate ramps for Hillsborough County and Pinellas County:

Pinellas County

  • I-275 northbound at Exit 16 (Sunshine Skyway Lane S.)
  • I-275 northbound at Exit 17 (Pinellas Bayway)
  • I-275 southbound at Exit 17 (Pinellas Bayway)
  • I-275 southbound at Exit 17 (54th Avenue S.)
  • I-275 northbound at Exit 18 (26th Avenue S.)
  • I-275 southbound at Exit 21 (28th Avenue S.)
  • I-175 eastbound at Dr. MLK Jr. Street
  • I-175 eastbound at 6th Street S.
  • I-375 eastbound at 8th Street N.
  • I-275 southbound at Exit 23B (5th Avenue N.)

Hillsborough County

  • I-275 southbound at Exit 41A (Dale Mabry Highway)
  • I-275 northbound at Exit 44 (Ashley Drive)
  • I-275 northbound at Exit 44 (Scott Street)
  • I-4 eastbound at Exit 3 (Columbus Drive)
  • I-4 westbound at Exit 3 (50th Street)
  • I-275 northbound at Exit 49 (Bird Street)
  • I-275 southbound at Exit 50 (Busch Boulevard)
  • I-75 southbound at Exit 265 (Fowler Avenue)
  • I-75 northbound at Exit 265 (Fowler Avenue)
