A sign that was supposed to go up on a right field wall at the Trop will no longer go up for Rays postseason games, according to the Rays owner.
The Tampa Bay Rays have won the American League East, which means they will host games at the Trop for the American League Division Series. When the Rays won the East Team President, Matt Silverman, said, “We’re going to add a sign in the right field foul territory with a very simple Tampa Bay-Montreal graphic.” Management wants to promote their split city plan between Tampa Bay and Montreal. The lease the Rays have with the Trop runs until the end of the 2027 season.
The owner of the Rays, Stu Sternberg, has now admitted that putting a sign up would be a mistake and has apologized to the Rays fans. Sternberg said, “I made a big mistake, a real mistake, in trying to promote our sister-city plan with a sign right now in our home ballpark. I absolutely should have known better. And really, I’m sorry for that. I’m here to tell … the fans that the sign is not going to go up.”
The Rays will host American League Division Series games October 7th and 8th and tickets for those two games will go on sale to the public Thursday.
