Who Has Played The QYK Guitar Pull So Far?
With the news that our 6th QYK Guitar Pull is coming home to The Mahaffey Theater on November 14, I thought it’d be a good time to look back at the first three.
If you’ve never been to one, you’re probably wondering… what IS a QYK Guitar Pull anyway? I know that’s the question I had. It’s unlike any concert you’ve ever been to. It’s just the stars and their guitars! And the best part is there’s no downtime. You don’t have road crews taking up half the night changing over sets from one act to the next. There’s no wasted time because all of the acts are on stage TOGETHER the entire night. It creates a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see each particular lineup on stage with each other, sharing road stories and laughs. Over the years, it’s been a mix of new country and Nashville veterans. The contrasting styles and personalities make for a unique event.
What makes the QYK Guitar Pull special is the intimacy of the event. Instead of a big stadium show, you’re up close with the stars as they create the feeling that you’re all just hanging out in the backyard by the fire playing music. And the best part is, money is raised for charity. And you’ll often get introduced to up-and-coming artists long before the mainstream catches on to their talent.
I remember the year Kane Brown was that guy at the end of the stage that nobody quite knew yet. He’d gathered a fan base on the internet but hadn’t had any big hit songs yet. Now years later, he’s had #1 hit singles on the radio, toured with Jason Aldean, headlined his own tour, and has been nominated and won for several awards.
In 2017, Chris Janson wanted to introduce the QYK Guitar Pull audience to a song he’d been working on. While usually, it’s the radio hits that bring the crowd to their feet, jaws dropped the first time we all heard “Drunk Girl.” The song was announced as a “Song of the Year” candidate for a CMA Awards.
