Tropical Storm Fred could impact Tampa Bay this weekend.
As of the 11a update from the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Fred has strengthened a bit and is currently off the coast of the Dominican Republic. Winds are tracked at 45 MPH so it’s a weak storm. Tropical Storm Fred is moving WNW at 16 MPH.
Late last night Fred strengthened from a potential cyclone to a Tropical Storm. However, based on history there is a good chance it will weaken tonight as it interacts with Hispaniola.
ABC Action News Chief Meteorologist Denis Phillips is forecasting according to his Facebook page: “Some extra rain, gusty winds & rough surf expected along the Gulf Coast (including Tampa) Saturday and Sunday.”
