You would think that after taking part in one triathlon, you would say "been there, done that." Roger Little of St. Petersburg doesn't know the meaning of that phrase. Not only is Roger about to take part in his 19th Ironman World Championship triathlon, he is the oldest individual to compete. Roger will be turning 81 in September and is ready to give it his all.
The Ironman World Championships takes place in Kona, Hawaii. Starting with a 2.4 mile swim, the contestants then proceed to bike for 112 miles and wrap it up with a full marathon (that's 26.2 miles). It's a grueling test of endurance and determination.
Roger stopped competing in the Ironman a few years ago but after his wife recently passed away, he decided to get back into triathlons. “So I said, well why don’t I go back and jump into triathlons? That’ll give me complete focus and keep me totally busy, and get my head out of losing her.”
Right now Roger is training hard, focusing on the race. No matter what place he finishes in...and we know he will finish...this triathlete is an inspiration to all of Tampa Bay!
