Tampa PD Will Have Ride-Along Counselors

It’s been talked about for a while, but now it’s actually happening. The Tampa Police Department is hiring mental health professionals who will ride along with officers and partner with them in interactions with people who are experiencing mental health or drug issues.

The counselors will be riding along and responding to calls in tandem with officers daily. The change is part of Mayor Jane Castor’s multi-part plan, which includes 17 different proposals to make policing better in Tampa. If you are a licensed mental health professional, you are encouraged to apply with the Tampa Police Department.
