Even though Pete Alonso plays for the New York Mets we can mark his Home Run Derby win as part of Champa Bay since he is from here, right? Alonso won the Home Run Derby for the second straight year beat the Orioles Trey Mancini 23-22 in the final round. Alonso hit a total of 74 home runs in the derby and joins Ken Griffey Jr. and Yoenis Cespedes as the only players to win the Home Run Derby two years in a row.
Pete Alonso was born in Tampa and went to Jesuit High School for two years before transferring to Plant High School, where he played baseball. Alonso attended college at the University of Florida and was a member of the Gator baseball team. He was drafted in the second round of the 2016 MLB draft by the New York Mets.
