Roxanne Wilder, host of the Experience Tampa Bay in 10 Minutes or Less podcast spoke with the founder, Anita Camacho who is known as “The Butterfly Whisperer”. Camacho, a self-proclaimed “nature girl” has wanted to open this conservatory for a long time. This is not only a passion project for her, but it’s also to help increase the numbers of butterflies and insects that are part of our ecosystem.

Camacho says, “There’s a lot to do in Tampa Bay, but this is different from other attractions. It will be a peaceful, tranquil place where people of all ages can come to reconnect with nature and learn about the important roles native plants and insects play in our environment.”

The Butterfly Conservatory of Tampa Bay nursery, temporary exhibit, and gift shop are open Tuesday – Friday 11a -5:30p, Saturday 10a-5:30p, Sunday 12p-4p, and closed on Mondays.

Live butterflies are on display in a temporary exhibit until the large exhibit opens later this year. Every Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon they have live butterflies on display and they always have the lifecycle going with anywhere from 20 to 30 species at any given time where you can see the caterpillars and the chrysalis.

They even offer summer camps, workshops, and classes.
