They’ve got plans. Big, big plans. The FDOT. They want to address the traffic problems you’ve no doubt encountered on Gandy Bridge. The heavy traffic flow has been blamed for everything from hundreds of accidents to slow commutes.
Options, options, options. Now, several plans are being floated to solve the seemingly endless issues. One plan would involve turning some of the westbound lanes into eastbound lanes, thereby easing traffic flow in and out of the cities of St. Pete and Tampa. Part of that plan would also include widening roads that lead on and off of the bridge.
Another plan would mean building an entirely new bridge beside the current structure. While administrators are currently holding meetings about the project, nothing will be happening anytime soon. Designers will not even start until 2025.
