Weekdays 10a-3p

An 11-year-old Tampa boy began a program of recycling books and stuffed animals, and a movie star turned talk show host got wind of it and made a big donation.

Actress Drew Barrymore learned of Zach Hartman’s recycling program, called Zach’s Planet,  from seeing the story originally reported by News Channel 8. She brought Zach on her TV show and surprised him with the news of her donation.

During the show, Drew pledged $5,000 to help him continue his crusade to keep books and toys out of landfills. How cool that this kid from Tampa has been backed by such a cool person!

Here is some of the background on Zach’s Planet according to their Facebook page:

  • 40,000 lbs kept out of landfills
  • 2,400 trees saved by reusing books
  • 65,000 books collected and donated to schools and Little Free Libraries
  • 3,000 stuffed animals repurposed as pet toys for animal shelters

I trust dogs and horses, love country music and country fried chicken. Fought many men and loved only 1 woman. She's from Nashville, so the accent. Life is short. Make somebody smile, dog-gonnit. Haaaaaa.
