On Tuesday Mayor Rick Kriseman talked about a new plan to start having live events in St. Petersburg again and the St. Pete Grand Prix is one of the biggest. The event was canceled in March, along with many other events, due to the pandemic.
Now it will return, opening on October 23rd and running through October 25th. The Grand Prix has a big impact on the local economy. On Thursday, (10/1) Mayor Rick Kriseman with the support of City Council approved GSSP’s plans to operate the event with 20,000 spectators under specific health and safety protocols. A chef at the Brichwood and Teak Restaurant in St. Pete, Lee Aquino, talked to a reporter from ABC Action News and said, “We’re really excited to get that loud noise happening down here again. It’s huge. It’s one of those pivotal hospitality holidays every year for us.”
