The 2020 Emmys had to adjust accordingly due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean the award show was without memorable moments.

From historic wins to unexpected appearances, here are the five biggest moments from the 2020 Emmy Awards.

Schitt’s Creek Makes History

The CBC/Pop TV comedy won a total of nine Emmy Awards: Two Creative Arts Emmys that were given out last week and seven Emmys from the primetime telecast, including a sweep of the entire comedy category. With their nine Emmys, Schitt’s Creek now holds the record for most wins in a single season for a comedy series. It also becomes the fifth series in television history where all main cast members won Emmy awards for their performances. The other four shows to accomplish that feat are All in the Family, The Golden Girls, The Simpsons and Will & Grace.

Zendaya’s Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Win Makes History

At 24-years-old, Zendaya’s win for her performance in Euphoria makes her the youngest actress ever to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

A Friends Mini-Reunion

When Jennifer Anniston went home after presenting at the beginning of the Emmy telecast, she did a bit with Jimmy Kimmel via video chat and was joined by Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow.

Regina King and Uzo Aduba Win Emmys While Wearing Breonna Taylor Shirts

Regina King and Uzo Aduba won the Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, respectively, for their performances in Watchmen and Mrs. America. Both women wore shirts honoring Breonna Taylor, the EMT who was fatally shot in March while she was asleep in her home by Louisville Metro Police officers who were executing a no-knock warrant.

Emmys Honor Essential Workers

During the telecast, the Emmy Awards honored the countless Americans who have kept the country running during the pandemic by featuring a number of essential workers presenting various Emmy categories.
