A  blue calamintha bee that hasn’t been seen in Florida since 2016 has been found by Florida Museum of Natural History researcher Chase Kimmel. Many experts thought the blue bee was extinct since it hadn’t been seen in so long. “We observed a shiny little blue bee grabbing (an Ashe’s calamint flower) and rubbing its head on the top portion of the flower 2-3 times,” Kimmel’s statement says. The blue bee has unique hairs on its face to collect pollen and Kimell has spotted more and more of the blue bees in their habitat.
