The Academy of Country Music nominated Song of the Year “Meant to Be” by Bebe Rexha and featuring Florida Georgia Line topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs multiple weeks in December of 2017.
At the time, Tyler Hubbard said, “I’m so honored to be a writer and an artist on this song. I’m thankful to just be one of the many people who put so much energy and effort into making music history.”
FGL’s Brian Kelley agreed with his musical partner, “The power of music continues to blow our minds, and we are extremely humbled and thankful that ‘Meant’ has spent the better part of a year at the top. The connection we feel with our fans through our music is extra special with this song. Bebe and her camp were a blast to work with.”
Bebe Rexha added, “I’m grateful to be able to create music that allows me to push limits and push myself. I’m grateful for all the love and warmth from the country community [and give] credit to country greats who influenced me: Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Dixie Chicks, Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and so many more. Here’s to writing with your heart and breaking boundaries.”
The song was written by FGL along with Rexha. Tyler explains, “We were just out in LA writing and just kind of reached out to some different artists and she hit us back at last minute and said, ‘Yeah I’ll come to the studio tonight.’ I don’t even think she knew we were going to write a song. I think she just thought we were going to hang out and meet and maybe schedule time to write. But me and the boys were ready to write.”
Hubbard continued, “We wrote that song in a couple of hours and [Bebe] sang down the demo. We left with the song pretty much the way it is on the radio, so it was a pretty awesome night. I think as songwriters that’s kind of what you live for. You know, there’s a lot of days that don’t unfold that way and don’t come that easy and sometimes the songs sort of falls out of the sky and it’s those writes that you kind of live for.”
The ACM Awards will be handed out on April 7 in Las Vegas and will air live on CBS.
