Some good news even though this hasn’t exactly been beach weather lately. HeraldTribute.com reports red tide levels in Florida are at the lowest they’ve been in a year. State workers tested water samples and found the lowest levels of Karenia brevis (the red time organism) since October 2017.

They say the situation got better in December, but red tide came back in January. I was out at Indian Rocks beach a couple weeks back and the smell was terrible. But they say Pinellas beaches now are in the clear.

Although conditions are better now along the beaches, they aren’t sure if the same can be said about offshore. No red tide was found at 16 Sarasota beaches and only low levels were reported in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
