LONDON – JULY 10: In this photo illustration a girl browses the social networking site Facebook on July 10, 2007 in London, England. Facebook has been rapidly catching up on MySpace as the premier social networking website and as of July 2007 was the secondmost visited such site on the World Wide Web. Started by 22 year old Harvard dropout Mark Zuckerberg, the website is responsible for 1% of all internet traffic and is the sixth most visited site in the USA. Deputies with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office are putting out the warning to those who date on social media sites like Facebook or Meet Me.

The scam goes like this, according to Fox 13... you meet someone from one of these sites. Once trust is built, this person you're seeing asks for provocative, sometimes nude, photos. Once you've done it, their work is done.

First, they ask for money. If you don't pay them off, they threaten to send this stuff to your friends and family. After all, you've probably added them to your friend list. And even if you set your privacy settings so that friends can't see other friends, they can still see who has commented on or liked your posts. Thus they have access to all the most important people in your life: friends, parents, brothers and sisters, your coworkers or boss! Online extortion can be easy money for the scammer.

They're asking anyone who's gone through this mess to call 1-800-706-2488.
