Some users on Reddit seem to have broken some sad news about the closing of a Tampa Bay landmark. If you grew up in Tampa, chances are you played Asteroids at some point or bowled a few games at Tampa Lanes on Dale Mabry. Many have posted on social media that the alley closed at some point this week, maybe as early as Wednesday. Is it for good? Are they renovating? Calls to the phone number on their web site went unanswered when I tried today and there are no updates are on the site itself.

Reviews on sites like Yelp and Google have been far from positive over the past few years, saying the condition of the alley had deteriorated. But some liked the classic vibe, even with the smell of smoke.

Positive reviews came from those who liked the cheap rates, compared to the newer high-tech alleys in Tampa Bay.

For many, the news may not come as a surprise. One review mentioned they were the only one in the place. But nonetheless, for those who remember bowling at Tampa Lanes and playing air hockey and its classic arcade games, it'll be a bit of childhood lost.
