The BBC went ahead conducted an investigation into U.K. coffee chains and found that samples of ice from Starbucks Coffee and Caffe Nero drinks contained “varying levels of the bacteria.” The most frightening part of all of this is that it’s the bacteria found in feces. Ice, tables, trays, and high chairs were all also part of the contamination study.
Tony Lewis, head of policy at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, told the BBC that it was “concerning” and could become a “source of human disease.” Following these results we have taken immediate action to update our ice handling procedures.”
