Does Garth Brooks have a live album coming next?

That would appear to be the case; While he was in Austin, Texas, last week for the South By Southwest conference and festival, we had a chance to ask Brooks about his plans for a next release, and he intimated that a concert souvenir is in the offing:

“I think we’re well on our way because you try and stay ahead of your game, but try to remember — I’ll just give you a little hint — try to remember that 20-something years ago the tour was coming to an end, so we released this thing called ‘Double Live’ (in 1998). Tour’s coming to an end. We gotta find a way to better it.”

Brooks released three albums last fall — the studio set “Gunslinger,” the holiday collaboration with wife Trisha Yearwood, “Christmas Together,” and the boxed set “The Ultimate Collection.” While he was in Austin, Brooks spoke to the convention about his partnership with Apple Music, then played an unannounced solo acoustic show at the Broken Spoke Dancehall on Friday (March 17) before playing a full-scale concert with his band on the SXSW Outdoor Stage on Ladybird Lake.

In addition to his own material Brooks covered Merle Haggard‘s “The Fightin’ Side Of Me,” Joe Nichols‘ “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off” and George Jones‘ “He Stopped Loving Her” at the Broken Spoke and, at the outdoor show, Billy Joel‘s “Piano Man” and George Strait‘s “Amarillo by Morning.” Brooks’ latest tour is currently scheduled to end on April 30 in Champaign, Ill.
